Benefits of PSRA
Membership
|
Please
note the new procedure for applying for PSRA membership:
All new and renewal applications for PSRA and USSRA membership should be done online at the
USSRA website. Additionally, lifetime PSRA and USSRA members should update their information there.
Please contact PSRA Treasurer Bill Strong

“… in a match, it is when the goal is in
sight that heart, nerves, muscles, and
courage are strained almost to the
breaking point. Yes, the goal is in sight.
All that is needed is the final effort.
Alas, the saddest
records are made by those of us who played well,
with brave and stout hearts,
until we were in sight of the goal.
And then some weakness or self-indulgence
held us back.
We never knew how near the goal we were
or how near we were to victory.”

PSRA PROVIDES EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITIES
FOR REACHING OUR GOALS
Joining the PSRA enhances the chances that regular matches will be
scheduled
in our busy appointment books and time REGULARLY set aside for exercise.
EXERCISE PROVIDES A MULTITUDE OF BENEFITS (2)
- Regular exercise -- especially aerobic like squash -- significantly reduces
anxiety, anger, and depression while increasing our sense of well-being. Let the endorphins
flow!
- Depression, incidentally, is the 2nd leading
cause of disability in America. Currently only 1 in 5 adults are
ever correctly diagnosed and treated – and only 1 in 100 children!
- Exercise also significantly reduces risks for cancer,
heart, stroke and other vascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes,
immune dysfunctions, and a multitude of other illnesses.
- Exercise promotes relaxation and improves sleep.
- Regular exercise is also the excellent antidote for
very significant reasons for premature aging -- loss of cardiovascular
fitness, cell fluid, muscle strength, flexibility, and balance.
- Exercise helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints - weight-bearing exercise (a racquet) helps prevent
osteoporosis!
93 sports were assessed for their value in these critical measurements
of health and vitality. Squash was in the top ten
percentile! Only one regular sport finished ahead of # 7 ranked
squash – # 6 soccer (The Tour de France was #1).
- Exercise helps control weight!
- Regular exercise improves sexual vitality!
STUDIES OF SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE
REVEAL EVEN MORE STARTLING INFORMATION!
(3)
-
93% feel unfulfilled when they reach their goals –as if a lifetime of effort
has been wasted.
-
What happened? Health and relationships were unfortunately and unnecessarily
sacrificed for success.
- HOWEVER:
7% reached their goals -- with their health and relationships intact!
- 14 characteristics separated these successes from the unfulfilled.
KEY FOR US!
Regular Commitment
to SQUASH play fulfills at least
12
of the 14 Characteristics of Fulfilled, Healthy,
and
Relationship-Happy Successful People!
- Regular exercise programs that kept them fit and alert.
- Ability to recognize signs of stress and take the action steps to prevent it.
- Willingness to take risks and try what is new -- for the possibility of greater growth and achievement (competition
against new opponents!).
- Commitment to regular vacation time and daily
rest and relaxation.
- Commitment to being creative, imaginative,
and innovative.
- Willingness to play with many options to arrive at
the best solutions. (A great definition of
squash!)
Your writer has found all 12 of
these characteristics demonstrated dramatically in the people I have met
over the past forty years in:
- Medicine.
- Psychiatry, mental health, and optimal well-being.
- Coaching amateur and professional players of all ages -- mental, physical, and emotional fitness.

A COMMON VOICE REVERBERATES!
“Without my regular league play,
I’d really need a shrink to keep my head
on straight.”
In my own life, I take the results of Dr. Pelletier’s studies to heart,
mind, body, and spirit. Membership in the PSRA and USSRA not only enriches
my life on a daily basis -- it provides key critical components for health,
happiness, and optimal well-being! --Bob Partridge
